Youth Access Worker (Sessional) Fixed Term to 31 March 2014 Ref: SS/06/05/13
£26,154 pa pro rata
The College runs a successful large scale Youth Access programme leading and supporting daytime, evening and weekend programmes and is seeking to add to the pool of youth work staff in support of these. If you are an experienced youth worker with flexible availability able to support young people in a variety of settings to realise their potential and would like to join our pool of sessional staff, then we'd like to consider your application. The ability to support young people in creative activities relating to art and design, music, video and 3d environments would be advantageous, as would experience in supporting young people to recognise their achievements using Dynamic Youth, Youth Achievement and/or Arts Awards.
The College's youth work services include the Transitions to Learning and Youth Access programmes.
The Transitions to Learning and Work Programme is supported by the Big Lottery Fund with a three year funding award and works in partnership with Glasgow City Council to support young people who have been 'looked after' in making successful transitions to independent life based on enhanced personal capacity and realistic further learning and working opportunities. The majority of this work takes place in daytimes and weekdays although evening and weekend work forms part of the programme.
The Youth Access programme supports young people in the evenings and at weekends to gain access to the Glasgow East Learning Network and to develop skills with creative technologies based on arts and cultural activities. To these ends Youth Access Workers lead IT-based activities, working with College tutors to engage young people in activities such as music creation, video editing, website creation and the recreational use of the internet and networked games. These activities are designed to support the development of transferrable IT skills but also to support the development of social skills and the ability of young people to interact positively with adults in authority. Sessions are based in learning centres equipped with PCs and fast connections to College servers and the Internet. The Youth Access programme is supported by Glasgow City Council Community Planning and Glasgow Housing Association.
All the College's youth work programmes are based on the principles of the Curriculum for Excellence.
The College is seeking sessional staff to support these and other youth work programmes.
You should possess an HNC (SCQF Level 7) or equivalent in an appropriate subject or possess relevant and suitable experience as an alternative to formal qualifications. Previous experience of youth and community work and excellent communication skills are essential.
