Message From the Principal

Welcome to John Wheatley College’s 2009/10 website. We hope this will provide you with most of the information you’ll need to start out on your learning journey - remember, our staff will be delighted to help you fill in the gaps.

In these challenging economic times, here at John Wheatley we believe that skills and learning are increasingly important when it comes to accessing or retaining jobs. There will be many opportunities out there with the development of the East End Regeneration Route, Clyde Gateway Initiative and,of course, the forthcoming Commonwealth Games - the College is here to help you make the best of yourself in a competitive jobs market or prepare you for more advanced learning.

With a reputation for friendliness and approachability, our staff understand the concerns which many students have when they come to college. We’re here to help and support each learner throughout their time with us.

The range of programmes available at John Wheatley College is designed to meet the needs of learners of all ages and all levels of ability, from introductory tasters to advanced level qualifications, part-time and full-time. For many students, classes will be free of charge or their fees will be highly subsidised – details about finance can be given by the College’s Advice Team.

We deliver a wide range of programmes from our two main campuses, with a variety of popular programmes in creative skills running in partnership with The Bridge, the awardwinning cultural and performance arts facility which links our Easterhouse campus with the Platform Auditorium, Culture & Sport Library and Swimming Pool.

Our smart and efficient campus buildings have become a byword for sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy use. The College has a broad range of facilities and services to help you during your studies, including access to wellstocked libraries, state-of-the-art computing technology and excellent childcare facilities.

We welcome visits from potential students. So, why not come in, have a look around and talk to our staff and students to get a better idea of how the College can help you get back into learning. We’re sure you’ll find a college where we can help you learn successfully for both work and life.
