Your Call Is Important to Us...

Whether you want to study at one of the College’s main campuses or remain within your local community – Advice is available at all stages, from before you enrol and during your learning on the programme of your choice.

Advice Team

The College’s Advice Team of Andrew Macdougall, Graham Thomson, Anne-Marie MacLeod and Christopher Tucker is available throughout the year to give information, advice and guidance to prospective learners interested in any of our programmes running in the main Campuses or in the local community. Their aim is to find a programme which suits your individual needs. All enquiries are confidential and the advice given is unbiased and impartial.

During your time at College, the Advice Team will help you with financial advice, form filling and all the important information to help you progress and plan for the next stage.

With one Team member linked to each programme, be assured you have someone you can talk to at any time during the year.

What’s Your Starting Point?

You don’t need qualifications to join many of the introductory programmes at John Wheatley College. However, if you do have previous qualifications or work experience, this will be taken into account when you discuss the options available to you and you’re choosing your own study level.

Our portfolio of programmes can be studied at a variety of levels – Access level 2 and 3, National Certificate, Higher National Certificate, Access to Higher Education and Professional Development Awards.

Why not check out our learning grid to find out your real starting point.

Learning – as INDIVIDUAL as you

Learners at John Wheatley College each follow an individual programme - even if they’re taught as part of a class. During an informal interview with a programme tutor and a member of the Advice Team, learners can choose a programme to suit their own needs. At enrolment, all learners will open an Individual Learning Plan, which is updated on a regular basis throughout their time at College.

The Choice is Yours…

The range of programmes offered can be studied from 2 hours to 21 hours per week.

It is up to each learner to decide whether they would like to study on a full-time or part-time programme, depending on their own needs.

Some learners may wish to commit to a full-time programme. It is possible to achieve a complete National Certificate Award in one academic year with the programme of study divided into 3 blocks and some time left for catching up with work and assessments.

A student may attend the College for up to 21 hours per week with the opportunity to attend more often for extra help with their studies. Normally, a student attending in this way would apply for a College bursary. This will always be explained to you at your interview. However, very large numbers of part-time learners enrol at the College each year. These students are able to plan their programmes of study to meet their own particular requirements and availability. College staff will be pleased to assist students in setting out an appropriate learning plan.

All students are encouraged to use the College libraries and flexible learning centres for private study at other times.
