College Facilities: The Bridge |
The Bridge hosts a range of exciting community resources, all under the same roof: John Wheatley College, the Easterhouse swimming pool, the biggest public library in the East of Glasgow, a 52 PC flexible learning unit, the Bridge Café and Platform, Glasgow East's purpose built Art facility.
John Wheatley College, as well as the other courses it provides from the Easterhouse Campus, also provides a wide range of cultural and industry-related programmes from the Bridge, including Sound Technology, Video Production and courses in creative technologies. Each programme is resourced with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to make the learning experience industry-relevant.
The public library is at the heart of the Bridge and, like others in Glasgow, is run by Culture and Sport Glasgow (with PC access supported by the College.
The City Council has completely refurbished the old Easterhouse Swimming Pool and this modern facility is an important part of the Bridge, managed by Culture and Sport Glasgow to complement the sports and leisure services in the nearby Easterhouse Sports Centre.
Platform is the inspirational arts facility sited within The Bridge and includes:
- 200 seat auditorium (400 standing when the seats are removed)
- rehearsal studio
- recording studio and video & sound editing suite
- practice rooms
- space for visual arts & crafts
- The café is open during the day and in the evenings for performances.
All of these facilities are available to students and the local community, encouraging access to and participation in the arts and cultural industries. This stimulating space has proven to be a haven for artists and exhibits, touring productions and installation artworks. Platform is also a home for the National Theatre of Scotland and the local performance company, Visual Statement.
