Governance: College Policies & Equalities |
Equality Statement
John Wheatley College is committed to equality of opportunity for all and strives to ensure that there are no barriers to the progress of staff or learners on the grounds of gender or gender identity. The College actively promotes gender equality and is committed to eliminating discrimination and unfair treatment in every aspect of its functions and activities that impact on learners, staff and others who use the services and facilities of the College.
As an employer and provider of services the College continually focuses its attention upon the needs of all its stakeholders and those who use its services. This has meant actively engaging and involving stakeholders, listening and responding to their views and needs, and adapting policies, procedures, plans and practices based on the information gathered to achieve gender equality and eliminate direct or indirect discrimination. This report describes what the College has done to listen to stakeholders and promote gender equality and how it will continue to involve its stakeholders in the future throughout the life of its Gender Equality Scheme (GES), and beyond.
The College’s GES and Action Plan will continue to assist the College to eliminate discrimination, including unlawful discrimination and harassment on the grounds of gender or gender identity, actively promote gender equality and maintain equal pay. This report clearly shows the information gathered from stakeholders through consultation and involvement activities, it demonstrates how the information gathered has, or will, contribute to and influence the on-going development and improvement of College policies, plans, services, functions and practices.
The College has consistently over the years strived to promote and drive forward gender equality throughout all its functions with ‘widening access’ as its top priority. Nevertheless John Wheatley College does not perceive gender equality as a target to be achieved but as an area to be continually developed and improved to ensure that it designs and delivers services which are widely accessible and appeal to a diverse number of users and both as an employer and provider of services.
The Board of Management and the College would like to thank all staff, learners, external partners and stakeholders who were involved in helping the College to develop its GES and Action Plan, design and produce this report and improve outcomes for all its stakeholders.
