Flexible Learning

John Wheatley College has two main flexible learning units where you can enrol for a flexible learning course and we also offer flexible learning opportunities in the community through our Widening Access programme.

In the flexible learning units you can learn a range of skills. Should you need help or support with reading, writing and numbers, our literacy support tutors can arrange sessions for you. You can also develop your skills in using computers with a range of informal and certificated opportunities, depending on your interest and previous experience.

Flexible learning means you can pick your times to get tutor support, or can choose other times for practise.

We have programmes for beginners and more experienced computer users and we can offer an individual learning programme supporting business, leisure and creative use of computers. Our support for qualifications includes two British Computer Society awards – the European Computer Driving Licence which provides a certificate for business application use (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) recognised widely by employers, and the new Digital Cre8or award which supports creative use of image, audio, video and animation software for publication to a wider audience.

Your starting point is either a call to our Advice Team (0141 588 1500) or a conversation with the programme tutor to work out your starting point and your interests so that we can agree your programme.

In the flexible learning units in our main campuses, your programme options include:

  • Having fun with computers
  • Using a Keyboard
  • Using the Web and Email
  • Information Technology Applications software 1 and 2
  • European Computer Driving Licence
  • Digital Cre8or
… but please feel free to discuss your particular interests and we’ll try to help.
